Famous Malayalam writer Zachariah was abused and manhandled by the DYFI, the youth wing of CPI(M), for his statements he made in a public function. Recently, a congress leader Mr.Unnithan was caught by the local people said to be DYFI and a men belonging to a muslim party PDP when he was staying with a woman in Manjeri. When Unnithan was visiting the house along with the woman, the local people surrounded the house, locked the gate, called the TV channel people and started abusing the couple for immoral activities. Mr. Zachariah, the writer did not find any fault in a grown up man staying with a woman and in his opiinion, others have no right to interfere.
I support Mr.Zachariah. It is a matter of human rights. Sex is a human right. We do not know whether Mr. Unnithan was engaged in any sexual activities and we need not bother about it as well. It is a question of human rights. A grown up man in this country has full right to make friendship with any woman and stay with her. Who is defining morality? Is our country being ruled by orthodox religious people who want to impose their outdated, superstitious and unscientific culture on the citizens? and a party like the CPI (M) seems to lick the boots of these religious fundamentalists by supporting their moral beliefs?
We have already come very far from the dark ages of human rights violations when people belonging to lower castes, women and weaker sections were discriminated, tortured, deprived of livelihood and kicked around. We now talk of equality of sexes. By adopting such measures as catching men and women talking, staying together or even engaging in sexual acts is heinous and shameful behaviour on the part of the society.
I am interested to know whether it is illegal in this country if a man and woman who are not legally married, stay together in a house ?
If it is not illegal, then it is time that the people who caught Mr. Unnithan and the woman be arrested and charged with violating the fundamental rights of a citizen.
