KTDC – Kerala Tourism Destruction Corporation

Latest news on KTDC is that its boad capsized. No wonder. The whole organisation is run for capsizing. Visit any KTDC hotel or beer parlour by the wayside. They will be poorly maintained, with employees poorly motivated to serve, yet quite expensive. No doubt, few people visit KTDC hotels, and if they do it is simply because they might have had no other option. And most likely people once visited would never revisit.

Now they have boats that are unsafe. Boats and ships will overturn if the overturning moment is not balanced by restoring moment. It is very clear that JALAKANYAKA the boat that capsized in Thekkadi is not designed to withstand the overturning moment that would be created by people crowding near one side. Now the boat driver is tortured and accused of causing the tragedy.

Is KTDC run professionally.. people have a right to know. How are KTDC employees and managers recruited? There are so many institutions in the State where you can earn government salaries and working conditions, without having to face the open competition like PSC exam. Shortcuts are way of life here..

The best thing to do is unbundle KTDC. and a government body to ensure safety, fair practices, prevent cheating, etc be placed, instead of being a service provider itself

Ban crackers in India

It is time that all sort of crackers are banned in the country. Why? Simple reason. The pollution it creates is too much burden for our ecosystem and environment. It is said that when SriRama returned after defeating Ravana, the people of Ayodhya bursted crackers for celebrations and to mark this event people are bursting crackers during this day Diwali. But, what was the population of India during the time of Sreerama. In recent decades India’s population doubles every 25 years. If you use this statistics to guestimate India’s population a few hundred years ago, you will be amazed to find that it was only a small fraction of the present population. Therefore there were only fewer and fewer people in India as we go back along the timeline.

They would have cracked only a fraction of crackers as they do now. Moreover, India’s economy has boomed and many people can afford to buy crackers, and therefore, per capita cracker usage must be much more now than it was years back. Thus considering the low population in the past, and lower economic development, we were cracking only a small fraction of what we do today. Thus year after year, during diwali and other festivals, we are dumping tonnes and tonnes of harmful chemicals in to our environment. Most of the living creatures are suffering due to the sound and pollution of crackers. It is against hindu philosophy to do any harm to animals and birds. But still we are reluctant to stop this bad practice of bursting crackers. Atmosphere is where we get oxygen to breathe. We should not pollute the atmosphere. It will cause innumerable catastrophes and diseases. We should be responsible citizens and pledge that ” I will not spend any money on crackers and pollute the atmosphere, that gives me oxygen to breathe”. A lot of diseases including damage to vital organs are result of pollution. Clean air is our basic right.. for each one of us.. There are so many religious fanatics who spread bad science that crackers clean up the atmosphere by killing bacteria etc. Fanatics, no need to say, do not arrive at conclusions and theories based on available evidence, rather they create theories for what they want to be… to serve their vested interests.

We should not fall prey to fanatics..Our society is not following them for developing .. we are following the path of science. Spirituality should not be vulgarised as these fanatics usually do, by marketing fake science to sell their commodities and interests.. India should ban crackers in all forms in all festivals and celebrations.. We, as global citizens, must show path to all countries in this world to protect our environment..

Rahul Gandhi made a bold statement. That he does not like to classify the poor as dalit

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics/nation/I-visit-the-poor-not-Dalit-Rahul-Gandhi/articleshow/5099982.cms

We should stop seeing people on the basis of caste and religion. Castes and religional classification are not a modern approach. It is of bygone era.. It is nice to see Rahul following the footsteps of Rajiv Gandhi, a great visionary…

Treat everyone as equal… regardless of caste and religion and gender (and age)

Kashmir girl overpowers militants

By Binoo Joshi

BBC News,

Jammu Rukhsana Kauser said she ‘fired endlessly’ A teenage girl says she killed a militant with his own gun after insurgents attacked their home in Indian-administered Kashmir. Three militants stormed into Rukhsana Kauser’s home in a remote village in Jammu region on Monday and started beating her parents in front of her. Ms Kauser, 18, and her brother turned on the gunmen, killing one and injuring two more. Police praised their courage. One of the militants wanted to marry Ms Kauser against her will, police said. The militants escaped and are now being sought by police who are using their blood trails as clues. ‘Fired endlessly’ The insurgents went to the house looking for Ms Kauser but her father, Noor Hussain, resisted their demands, Rajouri district senior police superintendent Shafqat Watali told the BBC. I had never touched a rifle before this, let alone fired one – but I had seen heroes firing in films Rukhsana Kauser Three gunmen then entered the house and attacked Ms Kauser’s parents, while four other militants remained outside. “My parents told me to hide under the bed and then opened the door,” Ms Kauser told the BBC. “Without saying anything they [the militants] started beating my parents and my uncle. They beat them so badly that my parents fell on the ground. I could not see that and pounced on one of the militants while my brother hit him with an axe,” she said. “I thought I should try the bold act of encountering militants before dying.” Ms Kauser said she grabbed one of the militants by the hair and banged his head against the wall. When he fell down she hit him with an axe, before snatching his rifle. “I fired endlessly. The militant commander got 12 shots on his body.” Her brother, Eijaz, 19, grabbed one of the other militants’ guns and also began shooting. Ms Kauser said the exchanges of gunfire with the militants had gone on for four hours. “I had never touched a rifle before this, let alone fired one. But I had seen heroes firing in films on TV and I tried the same way. Somehow I gathered courage – I fired and fought till dead tired.” ‘Bravery’ Police identified the militant commander as Abu Osama, who they say was a member of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba group and had been active in the Rajouri area for the past five years. Local residents told police that he wanted to marry Ms Kauser – and was prepared to do so forcibly. Rajouri police superintendent Shajqat Watali praised what he said was the “exemplary bravery” of Ms Kauser and her brother. “The reaction by these teenagers was extraordinary.” There are now fears the family could face retaliatory attacks, so they have been given police protection. But Ms Kauser wants more: “We cannot live here in this village. They should relocate us to a safer place in Rajouri town or elsewhere. The militants are not going to leave us after this embarrassment in which a top commander was killed.”

Injustice of a barbarian society

There was a time when Australia used to be the place for exile for criminals and prisoners from the British empire. Australia is going back to the stage of uncivilised barbarian tribe.

An Indian Homeopath parents being sent to several years of imprisonment for manslaughter

“Homeopath Jailed For Letting His Baby Die”

It is unbeliable that the parents deliberately killed the child. It is true that they committed a grave error. It could be due to over confidence in their own profession -homeopathy. Many who believe in homeopathy fears the side effects of allopathic medicines and try to stick to homeopathy, particularly for children’s diseases. These parents also wished such good thing for their child.

Now Australia, the nation claiming to be civilised, is treating this mistake as man slaughter. What does man slaugher mean. It is deliberate and planned murder of human for personal gains or ego. Not a death caused due to mistakes from the part of loving parents.

Perhaps Australia is so advanced that it does not know about parent’s love. Possibly, it is a nation where parents do not bring up children. First of all that nation that has gone far from religious ethics, have parents divorcing everytime.

It is sheer barbarianism for Australia not to recognise the predicament the parents of the diceased child is in… and consider it as a case of man slaughter.. Then what should people from the western countries be called .. who commit grave atrocities internationally .. in Iraq, in Japan, and everywhere in the world.. Australia seems to have forgotted the Christ..who preached forgiveness. It is unable to forgive a mistake committed by these parents. It should throw the Bible into the Ocean.. if it is unable to observe the christian principles and ethics

Women are treated as personal assets in muslim countries mostly

Afghanistan has enacted a new legislation empowering men of Shia sect of Islam to deny their wives food and sustenance if they refuse to obey their husbands’ sexual demands, a media report said on Saturday.

The new final draft of the legislation also grants guardianship of children exclusively to their fathers and grandfathers, and requires women to get permission from their husbands to work, The Guardian reported.

“It also effectively allows a rapist to avoid prosecution by paying ‘blood money’ to a girl who was injured when he raped her,” the report said quoting US charity Human Rights Watch.

In early April, US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown joined an international chorus of condemnation when the earlier version of the law legalised rape within marriage.

Although Afghan President Hamid Karzai appeared to back down, activists said the revised law still contained repressive measures and contradicted Afghanistan’s constitution and international treaties it is signed up to.

According to the report, the new law has been backed by the hardline Shia cleric Ayatollah Mohseni, who is thought to have influence over the voting intentions of some Shias, who make up around 20 per cent of the population.

Karzai has assiduously courted such minority leaders in the run up to next Thursday’s election, which is likely to be close, a poll indicated on Saturday.

In Afghanistan and many other muslim countries there is clear persecution of women and gender bias in every respect and human rights are unheard of. The concept of Islamic nations spell the death of all sorts of liberties to women and they have to suffer a lot, and live without dignity. Whatever, some say tha Quran is assuring dignity to women etc.., women, particularly the lower and middle classes, live as oppressed people in majority of the the muslim world.
Yet we see that some eminent hindu women like Madhavikutty adopted Islam. I think women like to be dominated.

population control

If the world has to survive for many more years, population growth must be stabilised. In third world countries women education and employment is also looked upon with hope as a means to control population. But this is not enough. I have a suggestion, that ultimately world will definitely adopt for its own existence. That is, focus on marriage as the chief instrument of breeding. People get married for many reasons.. 1) the natural need for companionship to escape alienation 2) physical and mental pleasures associated with interaction with opposite gender 3) social security, to be taken care of by children in the old age 4)social pressure and position. My suggestion is that the society, with a view to reduce human breeding, must seek sociological solutions aimed at encouraging people to abstain from marriage by providing them the benefits of marriage without actually getting into it, should be looked after. This includes providing social and financial security to people in the old age, liberalising outside marriage gender interactions cutting across conventional moral codes, encouraging medical solutions to prevent child birth and so on.. Without boldly and radically looking beyond the conventional practices, it is difficult to achieve population control and the problems associated with it

I am for reducing the role of religions in the society and politics

An article from asianet.com/news

Palakkad, Tuesday 23 June 2009: Union Minister for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor has said that he is pained at Indians becoming more concerned about caste and religion.

“This was not so in my school days. We never bothered to check the caste or religion of our friends,” he said, inaugurating the Smart Class (digital classroom) at Palghat Lions School here on Monday.

The Minister said that education should contribute towards society and its political development.

Sasi Tharoor.. you are absolutely right!
Indian society should start shedding its religious garb and emerge out as a scientific decent civilised society without the aid of religions and superstitions. People should be able to live here without following any religion and yet get a fair space equitable to that enjoyed by those followers of religions and caste..
The domination of religion and the belief that without religion people can’t live a moral civilised life is absolutely false.

KABUL, Afghanistan, April 14 (UPI) — A young Afghan woman who disobeyed her parents’ wishes by running away with the man she chose was shot by the Taliban with her lover, officials say.

The couple was publicly executed Monday, The Guardian reported. Officials in Nimroz, a conservative province in the southwest, identified the woman as Gul Pecha, described as in her late teens, and the man as Abdul Aziz, 21, the British newspaper said.

Officials said they were shot by a firing squad outside the mosque in Lokhi, the village where they had lived.

The woman’s parents tracked the couple down after they left the village and told the Taliban about their conduct, the provincial police chief, Abdul Jabar Pardeli, said.

The execution was “against Islam, against the law and against the Constitution,” said the governor of Nimroz, Ghulam Dastageer Azad
